Influence of plant growth regulators, cutting types and growing media on the propagation of Rue (Ruta graveolens L.)
Abstract
Rue, a plant known for its medicinal properties, is predominantly found in Idukki and Wayanad districts of Kerala. Local communities have been utilizing it for treating various ailments. Recognizing its potential, the Ayurvedic pharmaceutical sector in Kerala has started incorporating Rue into medicinal practices. However, limited availability poses a challenge for large scale utilization. To address this, a study comprising two experiments was designed to examine the influence of different types of cuttings, plant growth regulators (PGR) and rooting media on rue propagation. Terminal cuttings treated with a combination of IBA and NAA at 250 ppm showed significant results in terms of shoot length, shoot and root biomass, rooting percentage and survival rate. Additionally, a growth medium comprising coir pith compost, perlite and phosphobacterium demonstrated promising outcomes in sprouting percentage, shoot and root biomass, rooting percentage and overall survival rate.Downloads
